Philosophy

My educational philosophy of teaching is that early childhood education is a journey for the young child, the family and the teacher. Teachers and parents gain knowledge and appreciation of the child when they view themselves as being important partners in the child’s development.

Effective collaboration between teachers, children, and parents is the result of nurturing relationships that grow over time in an atmosphere of respect and trust. Within this atmosphere of trust, caring, and belonging, the children feel safe, valued, and free to take risks that scaffold and promote their development.

Attentive teachers build trust with young children as they model trusting relationships, peaceful conflict resolution, and empathy. They recognize that young children are in the process of learning social skills and thereby guide their behavior while keeping the children’s self-esteem intact.

Responsive teachers continually find ways to connect with children and families. In a climate of safety and openness, children in group settings gain a sense of being valued individually as well as being an important part of the group. They view themselves as members of a community of learners and their development is enhanced.

Early childhood teachers understand that children are the future of our country and the world. They inspire young children to become creative thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners.
