Play Themes

This gallery depicts activities that are child-initiated and take place during a part of out daily routine called “Center Time” which usually follows our large group “Circle Time.” During Center Time, children who are not engaged in a small group activity can go to a learning center of their choice until it is their turn to engage in some type of theme related daily project or skill-building activity.

Personally, the scenarios created by the children fascinate me. I think you will discover a common theme. My hope in providing this gallery is to highlight the importance of family through the eyes of the children.

There are also elements of math (one to one correspondence, symmetry, sorting, sequencing, spatial relationships), nurturing (social development, self- esteem, gaining experience in delay of gratification, taking turns, sharing), language development (listening and responding to peers and teachers), initiating and participating in dramatic play beginning writing and literacy (creating menus, lists, and labels).
